Pam and I spent the day down on Beale Street here in Memphis. We tried ribs at three different places and I thought I would give you my opinion of the three restaurants we tried. BB Kings, Blues City Cafe and Charles Vergos' Rendezvous.
Ribs: In my opinion the Rendezvous ribs were the best. These were a dry rub rib but came with a sauce. You have to try the hot bbq sauce. It is great. These ribs were not fall off the bone, but had a little tug to them. Really good flavor.
BB Kings ribs were second with Blues City Cafe a close third. These two ribs were wet and both were more of the fall of the bone type. Both really good, but I still thought Rendezvous ribs were better. All three were worth eating and I would try them all again.
Beans: We had beans at Rendezvous and Blues City Cafe. Both really good but Rendezvous's were the winner for me. Loved the meat Rendezvous used while cooking their beans. I think Blues City Cafe also had meat, but did not have as much. Rendezvous wins in the beans department. Did not have the beans at BB King.
Coleslaw: Ok, once again, Rendezvous. So good. More of a vinegar based with a taste of horseradish, which I hate, but in this case made the slaw really good. Blues City Cafe coleslaw reminded me of Kentucky Fried Chicken coleslaw. I also like the coleslaw at BB King's.
French Fries: We did not have fries at Rendezvous. Loved the fries at BB Kings. They had a special seasoning on them and they were really good. Fries at Blues City Cafe were good but nothing special.
So overall, I liked Rendezvous better, BB King second and then Blues City Cafe.
Don't get me wrong, they were all good and I would recommend all three. But if I had to choose one, I would choose Charles Vergos' Rendezvous. Off of Beale Street and down the back ally.
